Fur Prices Continue To Improve

An official in the fur industry is predicting even better returns for trappers this season.

Prices have been on an upturn for the last couple of years, but North American Fur Auctions spokesman Dave Bewick says current prices are definitely ahead of last year’s pace.

Bewick says during his group’s auction last week, spring beaver and muskrat pelts sold at excellent prices.

Beaver pelts sold at an average of just under $30, with the top pelts fetching roughly $50.

Not everything sold as hoped. Bewick notes there was an issue with the otter collection. Due to overseas import restrictions in China and other uncertainties, the otter pelts had to be withdrawn from the sale — a problem his group hopes to address soon.
