Fur Prices Continue Rebound

The staple of the Canadian fur industry had a good showing at a recent auction.
The year-end sale for North American Fur Auctions was held over the last few days in Toronto.
Spokesman Glen Campbell says it was an unusually good sale for beaver pelts, which were up 5 to 10 per cent over the returns received in NAFA’s record-breaking sale in March.
Campbell also says extremely strong prices were fetched for marten and lynx pelts, which he says bodes well for next fur season.
He says its very rare for those pelts to have such a strong showing so late in the year.
However, not all varieties of pelts drew well.
Campbell says otter and wild mink pelts continue to be undervalued — while the prices received for coyote pelts were a “major disappointment”.
Muskrat pelts averaged $3 apiece.
