The Federal Government has given the green light to begin a study on the possible construction of a new dam on the North Saskatchewan River.

Ryan Bader of the Battlefords Economic Development Authority says Ottawa has approved over $200,000 for the study which should begin soon.

Bader says some First Nations have already been consulted about the idea but more talks will take place.

He says the primary purpose of the dam would be to control flooding in the area.
