Now that it appears residential school survivors will be compensated in the not-to-distant future, the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is expressing concerns some of the former students might be re-victimized.
FSIN Vice Chief Morley Watson says he hopes businesses, as well as friends and family of the survivors, do not take advantage of them as compensation payments begin to flow.
Watson says First Nations communities, tribal councils and other agencies need to ensure that a range of support services are made available to the survivors during the compensation process.
He says programming dealing with money management is one example of what might be needed.
