As the aboriginal community mourns the passing of a well-known and respected Aboriginal war veteran, a Vice-Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations praises the distinguished leader.

Lawrence Joseph says the only way to described Veteran George Horse is as a warrior, to his community, family, and the nation.

Joseph says Horse had touched the lives of so many people and everyone is welcome to attend his funeral on Saturday, which will be held in the gymnasium, so it can accommodate a larger crowd.

Horse, who fought in World War Two and the Korean War, passed away just after 1 am yesterday at the age of 87.

His passing comes almost one year after the death of his great-grandson US Marine Robert McCoy-Awasis, who died in a bombing in Iraq.
