The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is being pushed to conduct a voluntary forensic audit of all government money received over the past five years.

Officials with the Battlefords Tribal Council say audits also need to be done on the 2007 Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games, the Dakota Dunes project and transfers of human resource training money.

The BTC says serious issues were raised last month by a judge, who was examining a lawsuit the council had filed against the FSIN.

Although the judge rejected the lawsuit, the BTC contends the FSIN still has much to answer for.

The conflict stems from the federation’s decision to strip the BTC of gaming money transfers it used to receive from the Gold Eagle Casino.

Those dollars now flow to a development corporation owned by the rival Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs.

The BTC has indicated it may sue individual chiefs over the affair, and already has filed legal papers against the provincial government.

FSIN officials were not immediately available for comment.
