A review is underway at the First Nations University of Canada.

Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Vice-Chief Lyle Whitefish touched on the issue at yesterday’s FSIN special assembly in Prince Albert.

Whitefish says he expects a report on senior management positions to be completed by the the end of the month.

He also says the school shouldn’t be in a deficit situation for much longer.

He says the past year has been rough on the FNUC’s finances due to the fact funds have been withheld from the federal government.

But Whitefish says a recent meeting with Indian Affairs officials went well.

He says they told him funds will be released at regular intervals as issues surrounding governance are addressed.

Meantime, Whitefish says the school is trying to get a First Nations governance expert from Arizona to come up and hold consultation meetings with First Nations.

Whitefish also says it shouldn’t be much longer before the school’s campus is designated as an urban reserve.
