Residential school survivors will be honoured this week at the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority annual powwow.

The sixth annual powwow will take place this weekend in Saskatoon.

FSIN Vice-Chief Lyle Whitefish says there will be special ceremonies to honour residential school survivors.

Whitefish says there will also be a residential school symposium on Thursday for Saskatoon students from Grades 9 to 12.

He says organizers hope it becomes a day of healing for his people.

Whitefish says First Nations people want to ensure their culture remains intact, and that their songs and dances are passed on to future generations.
