Hundreds of powwow dancers and drummers from across North America are congregating in Saskatoon for the weekend.

The 6th annual Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority powwow will be held at the Credit Union Centre.

FSIN Vice-Chief Lyle Whitefish says this celebration is important because it used to be forbidden during the residential school era.

This year’s theme is honouring residential school survivors, so the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre is holding a special ceremony for them.

The powwow runs all weekend.
