The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is congratulating the NDP on its election victory yesterday.

FSIN vice chief Morley Watson admits many First Nations leaders were uneasy about the potential of a Saskatchewan Party government, and says that party’s stance on the treaties is still unclear.

Watson is also excited about the role First Nations voters played in the critical riding of Saskatchewan Rivers last night — which was the final riding the NDP needed to secure a majority government.

Watson is also pleased that Saskatchewan has its first First Nations MLA — Joan Beatty of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, who was elected in the Cumberland riding.
