The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is teaming up with the provincial government to develop the Saskatchewan First Nations Family and Community Institute.
FSIN Vice-Chief Guy Lonechild says this institute will act as a central support system for 18 First Nations child and family services agencies, among other things.
Lonechild says the institute will play a lead role in developing culturally-relevant early intervention support services for young children, as well as young adults.
Lonechild says they are eagerly waiting to hear if Indian and Northern Affairs minister Jim Prentice will agree to sign on and support the new partnership.
The province announced $470,000 in initial funding for the program today.
