The outgoing police chief in Saskatoon received a rare honour from Saskatchewan’s chiefs yesterday.

Russell Sabo was presented with an eagle feather and a starblanket for his attempts to improve relations between the police force and First Nations people.

The ceremony took place during yesterday’s proceedings at the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations’ winter legislative assembly.

Sabo says he is humbled by the move, and advises his replacement to accept any invitations by First Nations leaders to take part in cultural ceremonies or talks.

Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison says Sabo’s contract is not being renewed because new blood is needed.
