The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations has taken a step to guarantee the voices of First Nations women are heard at the FSIN level.
The federation’s legislative assembly has amended its Convention Act to recognize the Saskatchewan First Nations Women’s Council as a commission.
The amendment was passed yesterday at the FSIN assembly in Prince Albert.
Up until now, the federation has recognized six commissions within its structure, which include Indian Government, Justice and Lands and Resources.
Among other things, the move guarantees First Nations’ women’s issues will be on the agenda at every FSIN legislative assembly.
