The town of Birch Hills is being criticized by the chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

Lawrence Joseph says it was a mistake by the community not to allow the Prince Albert Grand Council’s proposed youth addictions facility to be built there.

Joseph notess the detox centre would have accepted both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal clients.

Joseph says the community should be ashamed of itself, especially since it allows a bar to operate in the middle of town.

He says people in the province must come together to solve addictions problems, instead of creating divisions.

Joseph adds First Nations leaders will not let this latest setback or “pockets of ignorance” to drag them down.
