The chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is eager to see what the new premier will do for First Nations people.

Lawrence Joseph says he is hopeful Brad Wall’s government will work with First Nations people and acknowledge their special status under treaty.

The chief says he will also hold Wall to promises he made during the election campaign.

Joseph is reminding Wall that he promised to set up a round table to explore First Nations issues within six months of taking office.

Joseph says he wants to set a date now for that meeting in April.

The FSIN leader also notes the new premier promised to create a permanent place for First Nations on the Enterprise Saskatchewan board, as well as honour the existing duty-to-consult protocol between the province and First Nations.
