The Chief of the FSIN wants a public inquiry in how to prevent criminal activity and provide safer communities.

Chief Lawrence Joseph is responding to the latest RCMP shooting on the Clearwater River Dene Nation where RCMP shot and killed 38 year old Harry Hainault.

Joseph says people need to take a deeper look at why people committ crimes.

He says he doesn’t condone violence or resisting arrest but says there are many problems in First Nations communities.

Joseph is also calling on federal candidates running in the impending election to make safer communities for all people, including First Nations, an issue.
