FSIN Chief Discusses Ahenakew Fallout With PAGC

The grand chief of the Prince Albert Grand Council says he’s satisfied with how FSIN Chief Lawrence Joseph has dealt with the David Ahenakew file.

Ron Michel also says the matter has been blown out of proportion.

In April, the PAGC issued an open letter calling for the resolution reinstating Ahenakew as an FSIN senator to be rescinded.

Michel says that will likely happen at the next FSIN legislative assembly.

Joseph met with PAGC officials yesterday to try to clear the air over how the vote to reinstate Ahenakew came about.

Michel says most chiefs in the PAGC are satisfied with the measures that have been taken since then.

Joseph says he’ll do his best to keep Saskatchewan’s First Nations chiefs informed when it comes to future votes.

The FSIN leader hopes to avoid any future controversies at federation assemblies by making sure everyone is on the same page.

Joseph says he will likely suggest that bands clearly outline resolutions before submitting them in session.

He adds he takes full responsibility for any confusion that may have arisen over the Ahenakew issue.
