The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations would like to see an independent investigation into the suspected freezing deaths of two little girls on a Saskatchewan reserve.

Vice-Chief Guy Lonechild stresses it needs to be independent.

Lonechild says if there is a coroner’s inquest called into the recent deaths on Yellow Quill, the FSIN will seek standing.

In the meantime, he says the federation will work with its member First Nations to work on the underlying issues.

Lonechild says First Nations must also work with other levels of government.

He says the FSIN needs to make sure they are spending funds available in the best way to address issues facing reserves.
