Found La Ronge Teen Behind Bars

It turns out a La Ronge teen’s recent three-and-half-day ordeal in the wilderness could be the last days of freedom he has for a while.

18-year-old Francis Wayne Lafaver was in court in La Ronge yesterday on charges of breach of probation and breach of an undertaking.

RCMP Sgt. Jeff Poulette says Lafaver was under court order to stay at his mother’s house at Sikachu Lake around-the-clock when he disappeared near Hall Lake over the weekend.

Witnesses say Lafaver was last seen leaving a party at a gravel pit off Highway 165.

Lafaver eventually turned up after being forced to build shelters and scrounge for water in the woods, but was taken into custody soon after.

RCMP Sgt. Brad Kaeding says Lafaver’s disappearance looks legitimate — but admits the Mounties initially didn’t rule out the possibility that it was deliberately.

Lafaver has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on August 23rd. He is scheduled to enter a plea at that time.

Lafaver is also facing a charge of robbery with violence from an alleged incident in La Ronge back in March.
