The human remains discovered on 33rd Street in Saskatoon on June 30th have been positively identified as those of a missing Aboriginal woman.

Saskatoon Police spokeswoman Alyson Edwards says the discovery of the remains have led police to open a homicide investigation in the case of 19-year-old Marie Lasas.

Edwards says the circumstances into her disappearance point to a suspicious death –- but the police can’t get into more detail.

Lasas was last seen leaving a friend’s home on September 21st, 2006 in Saskatoon.

Edwards says there are still a number of things about Lasas’ death in which the public could help police, and anyone with information regarding her disappearance is urged to contact the police immediately.
