A band member from the Sweetgrass First Nation is appealing to the FSIN to devote more resources towards the problem of street-gangs.

Jason Chaquita works with youth in North Battleford who have been drawn into the clubs and are trying to leave. He says the problem is slowly-growing each day and more programming is needed to deal with the surge.

He adds he was able to escape the lifestyle after seven long years, but a few of his friends haven’t been as fortunate.

Chaquita adds the FSIN appears to be putting most of its money into large-urban centres. He feels more of that funding could be used in communities like North Battleford.
