Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River MP Gary Merasty is named in a lawsuit filed this week by former SIGA CEO Dutch Lerat.

Lerat is not suing Merasty, but he is suing SIGA and the FSIN for wrongful dismissal.

According to Lerat’s statement of claim, Merasty — who was SIGA’s interim board chair at the time — told Lerat that no cause existed for his termination.

Lerat says those sentiments were echoed by former FSIN chief Perry Bellegarde.

Lerat also says he was promised $240,000 at the time of his firing in 2000, but never received the money.

Lerat was let go after it was discovered that hundreds of thousands of dollars had been racked up on SIGA debit and credit cards.
