A former high-ranking Metis politician has decided to forego his preliminary hearing on a charge of forgery and head straight to trial.

Ralph Kennedy was charged in the wake of the controversial 2004 Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election, which resulted in several people being charged with forgery.

The former MNS provincial secretary has pleaded his innocence since the start.

Last week his lawyer notified a judge in North Battleford that Kennedy wants to proceed straight to trial.

That will likely happen in the fall.
