The wife of a former Metis Nation of Saskatchewan area director says she’s relieved his legal battle is finally over.

On Wednesday, a jury in North Battleford found Henry Cummings not guilty of forgery in connection with the 2004 MNS election.

Cummings was charged following an RCMP probe into allegations of wrongdoing that eventually resulted in convictions of six others.

Cummings’ attorney, Morris Bodnar, says the Crown’s evidence was lacking and Cummings is clearly innocent.

Bodnar says the Crown’s case was based on the testimony of one individual who admitted he tampered with the results of the last election.

Cummings’ wife, Nora, says justice has been served, and insists her husband’s political adversaries were behind the charge being laid.

Henry Cummings says he is relieved his ordeal is over, and admits it took a toll on his family, his health and his finances over the last three years.

A Crown prosecutor says he may appeal the matter — but nothing has been decided.
