Former LLRIB Chief Retires From Cameco Board

One of Cameco’s longest serving board members has retired.

The former chief of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Harry Cook, sat on the board of directors for 17 years.

Cameco CEO Jerry Grandey says Cook was invaluable to the company.

Grandey says he acted as an ambassador for the company when it expanded into other countries with Indigenous people.

Cook believes having a First Nations person on the board greatly helped northerners learn of opportunities within the industry.

He also can’t remember ever missing a board meeting.

Cook has been replaced by Prince Albert Grand Council Vice-Chief Don Deranger.

Deranger was elected yesterday at the company’s annual meeting of shareholders in Saskatoon.
