Former La Ronge Resident Earns Military Honour

A Lac La Ronge Indian Band Member has been honoured with a nationally-recognized military award.

Travis Heglund says he joined the military nine years ago because he wanted more fulfillment in his life and a sense of purpose.

The 29-year-old master corporal is the the first-ever winner of the Canadian Airborne Soldier of the Year award.

Heglund says winning the award is a deep honour and he loves his life in the military.

Heglund is preparing to travel to Ontario this weekend to participate in a specialized free-falling dive class.
