A La Ronge hockey player has gone from behind the boards to behind bars, for his alleged role in a fatal apartment fire.

Nineteen-year-old Blake David Norman is accused of setting the blaze that killed a young couple and their infant son, and left close to 90 other tenants of the Lakeview Apartments temporarily homeless.

Last season, Norman played forward for the local Ice Wolves junior hockey team.

In a brief court appearance at noon today, Norman was remanded back into police custody until June 25, when he will appear for a “show cause” hearing.

La Ronge Provincial Court Judge Felicia Daunt also ordered that Norman have no contact with four other men, whom the Crown intends to call as witnesses.

Meanwhile, Kelly Anderson, the owner of Lakeview Apartments and uncle of fire victim Justin Charles, says he hopes to have tenants back into their apartments as soon as this weekend.

The building repairs, which began shortly after the fire, were inspected earlier this afternoon, and Anderson says the first three floors are ready to go.

People who were living on the top floor, where the fire started, will be able to move into lower-level apartments while their homes are being repaired.

Anderson is meeting with the tenants at the La Ronge Hotel and Suites at 4:00 to discuss the arrangements.
