The latest academic to leave the First Nations University of Canada has explained the rationale behind his departure.

In an open letter to FNUC board chair Morley Watson, Dr. Neal McLeod accuses Watson of “profoundly damaging the school”.

In addition to listing the grievances other former university faculty members have raised in the past, McLeod says the Task Force Report into the crisis at the FNUC has, at best, been selectively implemented.

He draws particular attention to the recommendation from the task force that the board be de-politicized, and says this recommendation has not been followed to the full extent possible.

McLeod has been described as a rising star in First Nations academics, but recently ended his 10-year affiliation with the FNUC for a posting at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.
