Former Councilor Says Sandy Bay By-Election Flawed

The organizer of a road-block near Sandy Bay says the action was carried out in the interests of getting a fair election.

George Morin, a former councillor with the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, says he and others decided to block the road yesterday, because the by-election that had been planned was flawed.

He contends one of the candidates, Robert Ray, is tied to another breakaway band and therefore shouldn’t be allowed to run for a councillor’s position at PBCN.

Morin is calling for a review of the Candidate’s eligibility to be processed and has forwarded that request to Chief Ron Michel.

Morin says the roadblock has been taken down but will come up again if officials with the band try to hold another vote before a review is held.
