A former First Nations leader is urging residents of northern Saskatchewan to vote in large numbers in the upcoming by-election in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

Former Lac La Ronge Indian Band chief Harry Cook says they should also vote for the Tory candidate, Rob Clarke.

Even though the Conservatives have been criticized by Aboriginal leaders over their handling of the Kelowna Accord and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Cook believes the best way to be heard in Ottawa is to vote in a Tory MP.

Cook says constituents should also remember that it was the Tories that first let Aboriginal people vote.
