Officials with Saskatchewan Environment are hoping to get a better idea of how the northern community of Pinehouse deals with the threat of nearby wildfires.
Right now, the threat is not as pronounced as it is in other regions.
However, fire analysts have launched a pilot project aimed at identifying how best to improve the response of northern settlements.
Department prevention coordinator Larry Fremont says talks have begun with local town leaders about enhancing the village’s defenses.
Fremont says everything from charting wind direction to mapping surrounding vegetation will be done to support the project.
