Two men have let their names stand in the Assembly of First Nations’ election for national chief this summer.

Incumbent chief Phil Fontaine will run against long-time BC native leader Bill Wilson.

The AFN’s election takes place in Vancouver on July 12th.

According to the AFN’s election rules, one of the candidates has to capture 60 per cent of the votes cast by the chiefs in attendance before being declared the winner.

There are more than 630 First Nations communities in Canada that are recognized as members of the AFN.
