The First Nations University of Canada is holding a special ceremony tonight to honour the first graduates of its Bachelor of Health Studies program.

Bonnie Rogers, who originally hails from the Buffalo River Dene Nation, is one of four graduates who are being recognized.

Rogers says she’s excited about her program, which concentrates on understanding Indigenous health needs.

She says she knows first-hand many of the challenges that face First Nations citizens.

Rogers explains that’s why she wanted to work in a field that could create meaningful change.

The students will convocate next week.
