Jaimee Marks is a fitness instructor, motivational speaker and volunteer — and people are recognizing her efforts.

The First Nations University of Canada student is a finalist for the Enriching My Canada and Yours Award (EMCY).

She says the nomination comes from her work in the Aboriginal community.

“(It’s for) my work in the community, with fitness, nutrition, with being part of projects that empower the Aboriginal communities and give them more information and help (with) the betterment of our communities,” Marks says.

Marks says her mentor from the Winds of Change project nominated her for the award.

The EMCY is a national award that recognizes individuals and organizations who celebrate cultural diversity.

The winner will be announced in April next year.
