Students at the First Nations University of Canada campus in Regina can now get a first-hand look at how vegetation played into their traditional culture.

The school has unveiled a native prairie area that features grasses, trees and shrubs commonly used in First Nations ceremonies.

FNUC biologist Fiji Gendron says students will be encouraged to visit the site and discover the past.

Gendron says the area was established at the request of elders.

She adds plans for the site have been in the works since 2003.
