The province’s Minister of Advanced Education says he hopes a $2-million grant helps the First Nations University of Canada get back on its feet.

The province has given the school $1.6 million to alleviate its financial situation, and another $400,000 to launch a strategic review of its operations.

Rob Norris says it was clear the school needed money.

Norris says the review will help clarify issues relating to governance and programming.

FNUC Vice-President Al Ducharme says officials from both levels of government will be involved in that review.

He says it’s important for everyone to see what the school needs to remain viable.

Ducharme says the university’s administration will now meet with the faculty’s union reps to sign a collective bargaining agreement.

Ducharme adds the school fully intends to move ahead with plans for a new campus in Prince Albert, as well.
