Flooding Threatens Saskatchewan Reserves

Floodwaters are threatening at least two Saskatchewan reserves today.

An official with the Red Earth First Nation confirms the band is at a state of high alert right now, as flood-waters creep ever higher.

Roy Head says an evacuation could possibly take place in the next few days.

Head says residents should keep one another informed as much as possible.

Meantime, the band manager of Beardy’s Okemasis reserve says his first nation has already lost one home.

Brian Seeseequasis says a giant push of water is approaching the reserve from Waldheim.

He blames a lack of culverts near the reserve for the problem.

He adds talks are ongoing with the province and watershed authority on getting more built there in the future.
