Cameco continues to pump water out of the Cigar Lake mine.

Company officials say about half of the total volume of water in the flooded mine has been pumped out, and they’re now down to the 475-metre level in the main shaft.

Cameco spokesman Lyle Krahn says they’re hoping to inspect the underground by next spring.

“Our timeline to secure the mine is still April to October 2010. We want to get down into the mine, inspect everything and do any work that needs to be done, and then proceed from there,” Krahn says.

Krahn adds all of the water being removed is treated before it’s released into the environment.
