Five Northern Communities To Pick New Councils

Voters are going to the polls today in a number of northern municipalities.

La Loche, Cumberland House and Pinehouse will each elect a mayor and a full slate of councillors.

The incumbent mayors are all running for re-election, with Georgina Jolibois of La Loche facing former mayor J.J. Janvier, as well as Ida Lemaigre and Randy Herman.

Cumberland House mayor Andy McKay is also running against his predecessor, Dale McAuley, while the mayor of Pinehouse, Mike Natomagan, is being challenged by John Smerek.

Meantime, the northern settlements of Garson Lake and Wollaston will each choose their new local advisory councils tonight, at a public meeting.
