Fishers Given Last Opportunity to Fund Plant

Saskatchewan Commercial Fisheries is offering fishers in the North one last chance to be a part of a new fish processing plant in Prince Albert.

President John Carriere says almost all of the roughly 4 million dollars needed to establish the plant is in place, but he would still like to see fishers grab up nearly $300,000 in shares that are still available.

Carriere says his group really doesn’t want to raise that cash through loans, but it will if the fishers don’t buy the shares by the end of the month.

Carriere also has a warning for fishers that don’t buy shares in the plant — he says they will still be able to bring their fish to be processed there, but they won’t have any say at all in how the plant is managed.

The plant is expected to be ready early next year.
