The long-awaited fish processing facility in Prince Albert is promising to be a hot topic over the next couple of days at the annual gathering of the North’s commercial fishers.

Today is Day One of the proceedings, and many fishers want to hear the latest on the prolonged struggle to build the plant.

Financing difficulties have been the major obstacle ever since the plant proposal was announced two years ago, but recently, the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation and fishers have disagreed on how much fish from that plant can be marketed.

FFMC officials were scheduled to address the conference delegates today.

The fishers will also be hearing from representatives of Saskatchewan Environment and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans over the course of their gathering.
