First Two H1N1 Flu Deaths In Saskatchewan

The province has its first swine flu-related fatalities.

A woman in her mid-40s and a man in his mid-70s have died as a result of the H1N1 virus.

The deceased, whose locations have not been released, both also had “serious underlying health conditions”, but their deaths were the result of H1N1, according to the Ministry of Health.

Meantime, a northern health official reports three more cases of the H1N1 virus have been found in the province’s North.

That brings to 15 the total number of cases discovered in northern Saskatchewan.

But Dr. Monika Dutt, the region’s deputy medical health officer, says none of the 15 cases have been of the severe variety.

She says the flu doesn’t seem to have made as much of an impact in northern Saskatchewan as it has in the southern part of the province.

However, Dutt says it is difficult to know the full impact with certainty, as many northerners still haven’t been tested.

According to the Ministry of Health’s website, 739 cases of the H1N1 virus had been confirmed in the province as of today.
