Two people who are being called champions will be honoured tonight in Saskatoon for their contributions to First Nations sport and youth.

Eugene and Lorna Arcand will be recognized tonight at a banquet in their honour.

The FSIN is one of the groups organizing the event.

Spokesman Mervin Brass says the couple played a major role in getting the North American Indigenous Games started.

They were honoured earlier this year in Cowichan, BC during the latest edition of the Games, and Brass says that’s when people in this province decided they should be honoured at home, as well.

Brass says Eugene Arcand is also well-known for all the years he played fastball and hockey.

This evening’s banquet will feature a video presentation of the couple’s many contributions.
