First Nations Men Looking to Recapture Roles

A conference designed to help First Nations men recapture the roles and responsibilities they once had begins in Meadow Lake this week.

The organizer of the event, Patricia Main, explains many Indian males still have trouble coming to grips

with the damage that was done to them through the residential school experience and subsequent breakdowns in the family.

She hopes that by bringing these difficulties to light in a safe environment, healing can take place and a sense of empowerment can be given back to the participants.

Main adds guest speakers will be on hand to discuss the cultural and historical significance of men in the community.

She hopes anyone with questions will visit the conference, which begins Thursday morning at the Meadow Lake Civic Centre. It wraps up on Friday.
