Jaimee Marks is leading the charge for better health on two First Nations.
Members of the Peepeekisis and Standing Buffalo First Nations are participating in the School of Wellness Community Health Challenge.
For the next 12 weeks, 10 members from each community will attend information sessions on healthy living.
The free sessions will offer information on nutrition, exercise, disease prevention and more.
Marks is encouraging the entire community to participate.
“We have room for the crowds. We are encouraging everybody to come out and watch, and participate in the stands. We’re going to have lots of motivational talks. We want the whole community to be out. If you’re not on the team, it doesn’t matter — I want you out there. I have lots of prizes and lots of stuff to give away to make it exciting,” Marks says.
A $5,000 prize will be awarded to the group that loses the most centimeters from their total team body size.
The money will go to a community initiative.
The competition starts today, and is open to anyone over 18.
