It is still unknown exactly how tourism will be affected in the fire-torn region north of La Ronge.

Woodlands and Waterways Regional Development Corporation chairman Kirk Munro notes tourists were turned away when the forest fires threatened roadways and camping areas in recent weeks.

Munro says it’s still too early to say if the tourism numbers will be low over the long-term because of the fires.

He says some of the campgrounds may not as appealing as they once were, but adds the primary source of tourism in the region is its lakes and rivers, which haven’t been affected by the forest fires.
