The raging forest fires in northern Saskatchewan have prompted the Liberals to temporarily call off the nomination process in the federal riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

Saskatchewan Liberal Association president Frank Proto says the campaign managers for Joan Beatty and David Orchard have agreed that now is not the time for politics.

The nomination meetings were originally scheduled to take place on July 10th, but Proto says the race will be pushed back by at least a couple of weeks and will likely take place in late July or early August.

Proto notes mail service to many northern locations is cut off right now, which means the Liberals can’t officially notify party members about the campaign as per party regulations.
