A fire trainer with the province says there is less urgency now to turn out emergency Type 3 personnel, now that the forest fire situation has quieted somewhat.

However, Bob Sutton of Saskatchewan Environment says training will continue for all types of firefighters throughout the summer.

Sutton says his department has trained over 500 emergency personnel since the start of the summer, and will soon be closing in on 800.

He notes training in recent weeks has been quite busy all over the North.

Sutton also stresses that no training components were sacrificed in recent weeks due to the high demand.

He says all crews were given their full safety requirements. Sutton explains they simply shaved off half a day in time to make it happen sooner.
