Saskatchewan Environment is getting inundated with calls from people wishing to be trained as forest firefighters.

Spokesperson Val Nicholson says her department will advertise training sessions as they become available.

However, she’s urging interested applicants to not call local fire centres like they have been, because it’s taking away from the firefighting effort.

At last word, roughly 1,000 firefighters were working in the province.

The government says it is starting to churn out 30 new recruits every two days.
