The President of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation says some fishers and stakeholders have said they want to know more about the potential benefits would come from ending it’s monopoly.

Wood adds a study will be carried out by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, who will examine a number of topics.

Wood won’t speculate on what a two-desk system could mean to the FFMC’s overall monopoly.

But he says 70% of fishers said they supported the FFMC in the last survey.

An official with the Saskatchewan Fishermen’s Co-op says he thinks the study is a good idea.

Merle Hewison wouldn’t go on tape but says he’ll be interested to see the results of the study.

He expects the topic will be brought up at the next fishermen’s meeting on May 10th in Prince Albert.
